Hi you guys.
I need your input on this issue of " book returnability." I was introduced to this by my publisher this week for my two books, and it sound a little ridiculous. If you have heard of it, or have done it, how did you go about it. Did your publisher do it for you? Was it free or did it cost, and if so, how much please? Or did you directly to Ingram and work out the fine print.
I sure would appreciate any and everything you could share with me on this.
You all hacve a great valentines day. Hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerly,
Joe Hoffman

Are you talking about returns? Is this a self-published book or a traditionally published book. When you clarify that I can answer you better. Thanks.

I would call it a self published book. And yes, I'm talking about books that are returned to the printer that weren't sold.
Thanks'

Permalink Reply by Deborah Herman on February 14, 2013 at 5:45pm If you get distribution to a retail outlet they take them on cosignment. This means that they have the right to return them if they are not sold. There are self-publishing companies that charge for the potential of returns. They are usually not usable and are destroyed. If you do the book print on demand you do not have the bookstore distribution but you do not have the issue of returns. This is why distributors hold back some of the funds to account for this possibility. Where are you in the process?

Just wanted to see if you got my e-mail concerning returnability.
I asked if I could deal directly with Ingram and set up my own returnability program. I think my publisher wants way to much.
Have a great day.

Permalink Reply by Deborah Herman on February 16, 2013 at 7:16pm It does sound like a lot. However, the entire program sounds a bit steep. I don't know if you can deal directly with Ingram for returnability. However, there are distributors who may do that. I would love to know what they say. I will also look into it. Please make sure to join WAENet.com. I will be merging the two sites to keep everything under one roof so I don't miss answering people. There are almost 4k members there and there is a special writer entrepreneur group there that I will be using as this community. I hope it is not an inconvenience.

Hi Debbie:
I know you're busy, but I was interested if you found any other distributors that I could deal with privately with in the Book Returnability Issue.
Hope your well.
Sincerly,
Joe Hoffman
