Well, I guess it's time to introduce myself, and introduce you to what has kept me busy for the past year. In summary, it's a recently published medical fantasy trilogy, called The Book of Drachma.

Now for a bit of background. I am, by day, a physician, but I am also a painter, photographer, an amateur musicologist, and now also an author. The idea of becoming an author dates back to around 1989, when, following a gripe session, I conceived the idea of a medical fantasy novel. It would involve a physician, from our world, just doing what he normally does - keep the living going, and keeping death at bay. But this doctor is taken from his more or less comfortable existence, transported back to the fifteenth century, with his skills and training intact, but with none of the other things he has gotten to depend on, such as other physicians, nurses, laboratory tests, x-rays, IV fluids, sterile procedures (you get the picture). In this environment he is expected to act as a physician, and to try to cure illness!

I wrote the first part of the novel (Book One) in a little over a year. Then I wrote a few chapters into Book Two, while waiting to hear from publishers, which I never did. This project then got shelved until 2009, when I casually mentioned that I had written the beginnings of a novel. This coincided with my interest in developing a blog (now that I knew what a blog was). With the help of friends, then, I began putting out my novel, which now had taken on the name of The Book of Drachma, one chapter per week. As I had developed a following of sorts, they provided impetus to continue with what I had started. Soon enough, Book One (Laminar Flow) and subsequently Book Two (Coaptation) were completed, and Book Three (Turbulence and Restoration) was a few chapters from being done as well.

It became evident that this piece of work was now publishable, and I found a publisher to agree. So, I began the work that has taken me the better part of a year and a half to accomplish, namely working with the publisher to bring my now three novels to fruition.

Laminar Flow, The Book of Drachma, Book One has now been available for the past year. And Coaptation, The Book of Drachma, Book Two has been available for the past half year. Turbulence and Restoration, The Book of Drachma, Book Three has just become available, and will be hitting Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Hastings, etc in about three months.

So, if you're in the mood to cozy up by the fire, delve into a thick slice of medical history, tinged with mystery, magic, murder, and even some romance, well, have I got a deal for you!

This is just a quick update. The entire Book of Drachma is now available on Kindle. You can download all three books to your kindle. But you may also get the paperbacks, and wait for the third book to be released (March 13th).
